Who qualifies?

 
Existing social housing tenants - usually of a council or a housing association – depending on how long they have been a tenant, if they owe any rent and the sort of tenancy they have.
 

How does it work?

 
Social housing tenants can buy their current home either outright or on shared ownership terms through the HomeBuy scheme and usually at a discount.
 
The amount of the discount available will vary depending on how long you have been a tenant, where you live and the size of the share you want to buy.
 
Not all landlords offer this scheme so contact yours and ask if they are taking part and if you are eligible.
 
If you wish to go ahead you will need to arrange a mortgage and ensure you keep up your payments.
